28 Mar Bishop Jane’s visit to St. Mary’s
Yesterday, we were really excited to welcome the Rt Revd Dr Jane Mainwaring, Bishop of Hertford, to St. Mary’s School. Bishop Jane led our Eucharist Service and helped to share communion too – it was a very special day in school. Many thanks to Rev Alec who helped to make this visit possible, and also to our Mustard Seeds (pupil worship leaders) for reading from the Gospel and for leading intercession prayers.
It was a real pleasure to take Bishop Jane on a school tour – she visited every class. The children had prepared questions for her, including ‘How long have you been a Bishop?’, ‘Do you go to your own church?’, ‘What has been your biggest obstacle since you started being a Bishop?’, ‘Do you move in the same way as the Bishop in chess and do you play chess?!’
It was great to hear about Bishop Jane’s entry into her role as the first female Bishop of Hertford!
The children were also very intrigued to hear about Bishop Jane’s outfits. Some of our youngest children were lucky enough to get to try on the Bishop’s stole and cope. I was particularly impressed with some of the older children’s understanding of why a Bishop carries a crosier and they likened it to how Bishop Jane acts like a shepherd for people!
