08 May Christian Aid – Non Uniform Day
We will be supporting Christian Aid on Friday 17th May with a non-uniform day on which we will be inviting the children to also wear trainers to school.
We have set up a Just Giving page to raise funds directly for Christian Aid. The link can be accessed here.
Did you know that approximately 785,000,000 people around the world don’t have access to safe drinking water and rely on streams, ponds, canals and open wells?
In some countries of the world, people have to walk 5 hours to reach water, which made us realise how fortunate we are to be able to just turn a tap that’s a few feet away.
The ‘wear trainers’ of our non uniform day is to illustrate that some children in developing countries have to walk for many miles to obtain clean water – and many may do with no shoes on at all. We take our shoes and the comfort of them for granted every day, along with our access to clean water.
Collective worship this week is drawing on the work of Christian Aid and our fundraising efforts. The children have heard about Christian Aid’s 4 areas of focus:
- rights and access to services such as healthcare and education
- challenging discrimination
- supporting communities become more resilient to shocks and disasters such as drought, climate change and hurricanes
- enabling communities to make the most of opportunities, such as being able to sell their produce for a fair price.
Thank you in advance for your support.
