At Brookside Methodist Church we celebrated Candlemas (albeit a day early!) Candlemas is another name for the feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Forty days after His birth, Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple for the rites of purification and dedication as prescribed by Jewish Law.

We spoke about sources of light and Jesus being recognised as the light of world, even as a tiny baby. Y6 led us in worship by sharing readings from Luke Chapter 2 and leading us in prayer.

Rev Alec Corio also blessed our class candles and we sang a wonderful new song ‘We Are the Light’, the chorus of which is particularly beautiful:

Let’s shine this light in every corner

Let’s shine this light into the dark

Let’s shine this light of Christ together

In every soul and every heart.
