01 Oct Harvest Festival 2024
Thank you SO much for all of the donations received today. We are overwhelmed at your immense generosity. This half term, we have learned a memory verse from Matthew’s gospel:
Be a light for other people. Live so they will see the good things you do.
Every donation will provide the gift of light and hope for people in our community who really need it. We have indeed done a good thing today!
These gifts will be shared between the Chipping Barnet Food Bank and Homeless Action in Barnet this week.
We’d like to thank Rev Alec and Rev Martin Wellings, who is one of our governors, for helping to lead today’s worship.
Here are our prayers from today’s service:
Loving Lord, at this harvest time we thank you for all the good things you give us. We thank you for creating this beautiful earth and all the varied life forms within it. Forgive us for the times when we are careless and forget to be good stewards of our world. Lord of the harvest: hear our prayer.
We give thanks for all who work on land and sea to provide our daily food. We pray for farmers in all parts of the world who have planted the seed and tended the crops so that we can have food to eat. We pray too for those who process and distribute our food and for ourselves, that we may shop wisely and with thought for others. Lord of the harvest: hear our prayer
Father God, today, we think about those who are short of food, whose harvests have failed because of lack of rain or whose livelihood has been destroyed by war or conflict. Remind us of your instruction to love our neighbours – whether nearby or in the wider world. Lord of the harvest: hear our prayer
We pray for the homeless and those who depend on the charity of others. We pray for the work of Chipping Barnet local food bank and Homeless Action in Barnet– working to help those in need. Help us to share the harvests of the world more fairly, so everyone can be fed and there will be no more starvation. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
