Children at St. Mary’s have many opportunities for their voices to be heard.
Children at St. Mary’s have many opportunities for their voices to be heard. We have a school council which meets regularly to discuss issues raised in class time and thoughts arising from daily worship. The council is genuinely able to effect change within the school.
Council members from Year 1 to Year 6 are voted in by their class each term; candidates give a speech to describe why they would make effective council members that would bring about change to St. Mary’s.
Autumn 2019 Members:

The school council have historically brought about the following changes to school life:
- Separate play times for infants and juniors
- Introduction of Chess Club
- Arts Days
- Improved play equipment for use at play time
They have also discussed ways in which we can contribute more widely to society:
- Environmental issues and climate change awareness (doing our bit!)
- Engaging with the charity Operation Christmas Child annually
The School Council have recently contributed to a survey on school safety. Click the School Council Safety Survey to see what they had to say about it.
